This is the brides 2nd marriage. The 1st time around (about 7 years ago) she had the big white wedding and a big shower hosted by her mother. Now they are doing it all over again and it seems a little much.

It’s the groom’s 1st marriage so I could understand his mother hosting a shower for his side of the family but it seems tacky for the bride’s side to invite the same people again to a "Monetary Shower".

Is this appropriate?

1. How much say do the parents of the bride/groom have in the marriage?
2. For what reasons can a parent say "no" to a marriage proposal? What if either one of them refused to let their daughter/son marry solely based on the other’s nationality/educational qualification or something like that? Islamically, is it wrong for the child to pursue the proposal if the reasons for rejection are trivial?
3. If one parent is okay with the proposed marriage, while the other isn’t, whose decision will prevail?

P.S.: No, I’m not getting married, or even looking for anyone. I’m just curious ^ ^..Thanx in advance for your answers.

I thought it was, because a "love marriage" is when two people fall in love and traditionally date.

People say arranged marriages are arranged by the parents, but there are a lot of people today that choose their bride/groom WITHOUT formally dating them. Isn’t it still arranging to marry someone without falling in love first or dating them for a few years?

What do you think?
Kessie-Even when parents arrange the partners for their kids, they still ask their kids if they like the person. If the kid doesn’t like the person the mom or dad chooses, the parent goes on to the next person.

Please focus on the logic behind getting friends or a number of people with the groom to a specific place or bride’s house for marriage.

I am getting married in a few months and my boyfriend and i are paying for the wedding entirely by ourselves so the budget is tight. I have found a wedding dress at a resale shope that i love and that fits perfectly and at a great price only so its perfect. My family is Hispanic so they are superstitious that me wearing a wedding dress worn by another woman that we have no idea who it is (versus like wearing a dress from a family member where we know how the marriage turned out) is bad luck. anyone every heard of this?

I remember hearing about this when I was a child and there is a word for it. I think it was in the "old west" and a group of men would "kidnap" the bride and take her for a wagon ride to keep her from the groom. I guess it is to prolong the groom being able to have access to consummate the marriage. It was all done in good fun.

Had you attended the reception, would you have bought them a silver platter or paper plates? (translation for the allegorically challenged: Do you expect the marriage to stand the test of time or go to pieces before the year’s out?)
